Department of Automated Engineering Technology of the Institute of Cybernetics is developing a production technology of the collimator housing with burnishing operations.

Department of Automated Engineering Technology of the Institute of Cybernetics has signed an agreement with the company "Industrial Mechanics" on development of the production technology of the collimator housing with burnishing operations and manufacturing of the automatic facility for the burnishing operations. The amount of the contract with the company is 10 million rubles.

In the course of the work the Department of Automated Engineering Technology shall conduct additional studies and on the basis of its own research to develop and manufacture the automatic facility for burnishing of holes in the collimator housing. The collimator is a device to get parallel beams of the light or particles. Collimators are used in astronomy to calibrate the large measuring instruments, spectral devices to obtain beams of light directed into the dispersing system in various measuring, testing and verifying opto-mechanical devices and targeting systems.

Machining of the component parts with finishing plastic deformation (burnishing) is one of the effective methods of surface treatment of the holes. Ph.D. Vladimir Fedorovich Skvortsov, Associate Professor, is a father of this scientific direction of the department. He was the one of the first researchers of TPU who started to study the burnishing process, 2 theses were defended under his supervision, as well as the burnishing machines were developed and put into operation. Currently, the graduate students of the Department of Automated Engineering Technology engaged in research and perform contractual work in this direction.

Some faculties of the department have written 4 monographs on the given subject, including the one which has been published by the German publishing house abroad.

Also, the department has some results and a number of facilities for high-speed smoothening of the curved surfaces, which is also a contractual work. Along with burnishing, the surface plastic deformation includes the method of diamond burnishing, which is actively used by the department, under the supervision of Yu. B. Chervach, the Assistant Professor of the Department.
