Institute of Cybernetics opened a research laboratory of telecommunication, instrumentation and marine geology TPU

Institute of Cybernetics held an opening ceremony of research laboratory of telecommunication, instrumentation and marine geology. The official ceremony of the red ribbon cutting was realized by the Leonid A. Naumov, Director of the Institute of Marine Technology Problems (IMTP) of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Science and Mikhail A. Sonkin, TPU Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation.

The new laboratory is a joint project of the scientists of both organizations mentioned above. It will be used for basic and applied research aimed at creation of the telecommunication means and systems, devices and microprocessor systems. New devices are under demand to control the deep submergence vehicles, for environmental measurements, as well as geological research and exploration of mineral resources in the seas and oceans.

The Laboratory is associated with the operation in the field of telecommunication, development of new on-board information and measurement systems, processes modeling of the passing undersea vehicles, 3D visualization and etc.

"The main benefit of such labs is training of the specialists who would be capable of creating the hardware of the global ocean development - said Mr. Naumov. - More than 70% of the Earth is covered with water, while the ocean is the most poorly studied object of nature. There are Roscosmos, Rosatom, and I hope that soon all efforts will be directed to the study of Roshydrocosmos. Now it is the time to integrate, unite and send the specialists to those breakthrough directions in which we can get behind."

It was noted that the Academy of Science has already have the laboratories studying the underwater technologies in Taganrog, Khabarovsk, Vladivostok.

It should be mentioned that the laboratory is established in the framework of a cooperation agreement signed earlier by TPU and IMTP and Megaproject "Telecommunication monitoring and control systems for the unmanned underwater vehicles (UUV)".

Institute of Marine Technology Problems (IMTP) of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Science is engaged in research and development of unmanned underwater robotic systems and complexes; investigation of the ocean environment structure, development of technical means of investigation of the ocean with acoustic and other methods; study of the ocean energy resources and other renewable energy sources, technology development of their application. Over the past decade, the institute created over 20 experimental prototypes of autonomous, remotely operated and towed vehicles capable of operating at great depths and autonomously at up to the maximum depths of the ocean.
