Institute of Cybernetics presented its megaproject to the Nobel Prize Winner Dan Shechtman

On April 16 - 18 the Nobel Prize Winner (2011, chemistry) Dan Shechtman, Professor of the Israel Technological University and the Chair of the International Academic Board, visited Tomsk Polytechnic University. During the visit Professor Shechtman met with the TPU Rector, Peter Chubik, held the first meeting of the TPU International Academic Board, and delivered a lecture on "Quasi-periodic crystals - paradigm shift in crystallography." TPU Institutes presented six projects to the International Academic Board for expert review, including the project of the Institute of Cybernetics "Telecommunication monitoring and control systems for the unmanned underwater vehicles", aimed at the development of marine robotics and ocean exploratory technology and adequate decision making in emergency situations.

The project was presented in English by the head of the training and research laboratory of geo information systems, Anton V. Kudinov. The Laboratory of Geo Information Systems will be responsible for the development of the methods and techniques of underwater objects identification and creation of new solutions for the collection, storage and processing of big data on-board of autonomous unmanned underwater vehicles.

The base structural unit of the project will be a research laboratory of telecommunications, instrumentation and marine geology, established in 2014 jointly with the Institute of Marine Technology Problems, RAS Far Eastern Branch, which is a leader in the development of autonomous unmanned underwater vehicles in Russia and has 40 years of experience in creating underwater robots actively used in Russia and abroad.

Professor Shechtman asked a few questions on the megaproject of Institute of Cybernetics and gave some valuable tips on promotion and development of the project.

After the presentation of the project Professor Shechtman visited the Training Research Center "Hughes - TPU", which is planned to be used as a basis to realize the communication channels and develop the methods of group control of autonomous unmanned underwater vehicles and develop the integrated communications and telecommunication systems.

It should be noted that in addition to solution of the scientific and technical problems, the project is aimed to create an educational environment and the world-class training programs.
