Course Objectives and Content:
Course objectives: the formation of skills to use lexicon in the professional field; the formation of skills to work with special foreign language literature for obtaining professional information; the motivation for further training of the oral foreign-language speech; the improvement of written language skills. Students learning outcomes the ability to use the basis of natural-science disciplines in professional tasks in English; the ability to be guided in the main methods and systems of technosphere safety in English; the ability to use specialized and scientific databases for search foreign literature in technosphere safety; the ability to be familiar with special terminology in the field of a technosphere safety in English. Students carry out reviews of periodical literature from English-language publications, and participate in a mini-conference on the results of their research.
Course Outline:
Section 1. Thermodynamic bases of physical and chemical processes in the technosphere
Section 2. Biogeochemical cycles of substances and elements in the environment
Section 3. Modern security systems in the technosphere
Section 4. Regularities of heat and mass transfer of combustion processes
Section 5. Mathematical modeling of processes in emergency situations
Course Delivery: one semester, 18 weeks
Prerequisites: Foreign language
Co-requisites: Chemistry of the environment, life safety, combustion and explosion theory, industrial safety, fire and explosion protection, radiation and chemical protection
Final Assessment: pass/fail test
