Abstract of the discipline:


The syllabus on «Linear and nonlinear equations of physics» is designed at the Department of Higher Mathematics and Mathematical Physics, Tomsk Polytechnic University. The syllabus is intended for third and forth-year students of Institute of Physics and Technology.

The goal of the discipline is

  • developing skills of mathematical formulations of physical problems;
  • solving differential equations in partial derivatives;
  • acquiring of basic techniques for solving practical problems of the discipline on the topics;
  • application of mathematical methods and elements of scientific research in the physical problems.

Structure of the course:

  • Equations in partial derivatives of the first and second order
  • Sturm–Liouville theory
  • Heat equation
  • Wave equation
  • Laplace equation
  • Special functions
  • Basics of nonlinear physics
