Research work:
• She carries out research of the Arctic seas shelf as a source of greenhouse gases planetary significance for more than 10 years. Key questions: forecast of methane emission on the East Siberian Shelf, the current state of the submarine permafrost, carbon cycle in the shallow shelf.
• She is the head of a number of research projects. The scientific team led by Shakhova N.E and Semiletov I.P. in 2013 conducting research for the grant of the Russian Government. It holds three international expeditions to the Arctic, including the world's only scientific icebreaker.
• The constant participant of international and national conferences: American Geophysical Union, AGU (San Francisco, CA), General Assembly of the European Geophysical Union (Vienna, Austria); State of the Arctic: Miami, Florida; International conference: Bridges of Science between North America and the Russian Far East, Vladivostok, Russia, and many others.
• Published numerous articles in leading scientific Russian and foreign journals, including Biogeosciencces, Deep-Sea Research, Nature Geosciences, Geophysical Research Letters, J. Geophysical Research.
• The results will improve current mathematical models, reducing the dynamics of the submarine permafrost in the past and predicting its modern state. Designed Shakhova N.E. methodological approaches and original author's methods in studying methane could form the basis for developing a strategy for further research in the Arctic seas to explore their role in the global methane cycle, and contribute to the current climate processes.
