Bio of Associate Professor Alexander Chmykhalo
Dr. Chmykhalo obtained his Bachelor (1995) from Tomsk State University and got his Ph.D. degrees from Philosophy of science and technology, Tomsk Polytechnic University, Tomsk (Russia) in 2002. In 1998, he joined to Philosophy department of Tomsk Polytechnic University, where he is now an Associate Professor. His main research interests include history and philosophy of science and technology. His current research interest is history and philosophy of high education system especially engineering education. In addition, his research interests include some questions of Russian military history especially about Red Army before June 1941. He has been recognized for his teaching skills and was awarded the letter of thanks from TPU Rector in 2000 and 2004, respectively. In addition, he received Diploma of the Administration of Tomsk in 2007. He collaborated with the colleagues for researching Future of Russian engineering education in Siberian region from 2016 to 2017. He is one of the recipients of Russian Fond of fundamental Researcher’s grant to research Smart-technologies as an imperative of innovative development for Russian society (through the example of higher engineering education): barriers and prospects. This grant was got in December 2017. Because of his extensive teaching background, Alexander knows how important it is for engineering graduates to have writing and rhetoric’s skills, as well as a sound knowledge of ethics principles. As such, he incorporates many discussions and project-based learning activities into his teaching. Alexander is extremely passionate about engineering education and undertakes research into improving the effectiveness of engineering education to improve student learning outcomes. He is the author of more than 50 research publicationsю it includes more than 30 journal papers, 8 books and more than 20 conference papers. Alexander is a member of Russian Philosophy Society.
