The discipline studies the principles of spatial evolution of urbanization as global world development and main regularities for modern territorial organization of the population.

The understanding of factors which influence the population settlement, main dynamic indexes, spatial peculiarities of settlement system allow applying of complex approach in urbanized territories study.

The main items and methods of the discipline have interdisciplinary and integrating research character; it permits to consider anthropogenic impact on the urban system units, to analyze ecological issues of urban lands and to suggest methods for their solution.
