His scientific interests include isotope separation and fine purification of substances, computer modeling of separation processes, the development of environmentally friendly technologies.

From the beginning of his career, Orlov AA participated as an executor, then the responsible officer and the supervisor in the performance of contractual work with: OJSC "NPCC", Novosibirsk; JSC "TVEL", Moscow; JSC "ECP" Zelenogorsk; JSC "AECC" Angarsk; JSC "SCC", Seversk and implementation of a number of grants, including 2 grants from the Ministry of Atomic Energy and the Ministry of Education in 2009-2010. He was the supervisor of the regional grant.

One of the inventions (which he is a co-author) - a computer simulator of the separation of production introduced in 2005 in JSC "ECP" and in 2010 of "SCC". In 2011, JSC "ECP" implemented the following software products developed with his participation: "Analysis of the loading of the main equipment", "Statistical processing of passport data and data on failures of gas centrifuges", "Fault detection of gas centrifuges", "Grading of gas centrifuges", "Search vacuum leaks in technological sections".

Orlov A.A. served as scientific secretary of the doctoral dissertation council DS 212.025.01 TPU from 2000 to 2008. He is currently a member of the Dissertation Council.

He was supervision of 4 PhD dissertations, research papers students won prizes, received the medal "For the best student scientific work" and encouraged financially. Orlov A.A. was a scientific consultant of doctoral dissertation, which was successfully defended in 2012.

He published more than 250 scientific works, including 3 monographs, 48 articles, 9 tutorials (including one with the stamp of the EMA), 15 patents.
