The materials science (metallurgical science in narrow sense) is a science about interrelation of an electronic structure, structure of materials with their structure, physical, chemical, technological and operational properties. Problems of the course "Materials science" are acquaintance of students with properties of metals and alloys, other constructional materials, methods of their research, prospects of development of materials science; development at students of skills of application of the gained knowledge in the field of practical materials science. As a result of development of a course students have to know the main ways of the description of a structural and phase condition of metals, be able to correlate a chemical composition, a structural state and physical properties of metals on the basis of iron; have to know the main ideas of structure of metals, classification of phase transformations, charts of a condition of systems of alloys, the basic concepts in the field of physical methods of quality control of materials and products. Knowledge from the general physics, chemistry, physics of a solid body, measurements of physical properties is necessary for successful mastering the maintenance of a course.
