The purposes and problems of discipline are formulated. There is indicated what the students should know and can do as a result of study of discipline. The contents of the lectures, laboratory and practical study, independent cognitive activity include: properties of nuclei and nuclear reactions; interaction of neutrons of different energies with nuclei; process of division and spectra of neutrons in a nuclear reactor; concept about diffusion of neutrons; parameters determining diffusion of neutrons in space; a Fick's law for neutrons; a diffusion equation; moderation of neutrons in infinite medium; scattering of neutrons by stationary nuclei,; power distribution of slowed-down neutrons in infinite homogeneous medium; probability to avoid absorption at moderation ,an effective resonant integral; neutron thermalization, neutron gas temperature; spatial distribution of slowed-down neutrons, model of continuous moderation; an equation of age; an equation of moderation in age approximation. There is the list of the literature. The bank of audit materials with the methodical instructions is attached separately. It includes the list of theoretical questions, the task tables of the laboratory works.
