Galodif (meta-chlorobenzhydrylurea) is an anticonvulsant developed at the Department of Biotechnology and Organic Chemistry of the National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University. Galodif shows high anticonvulsant activity, and also has antiarrhythmic action, it is effective at treatment of alcoholism. However, previously benzhydryl ureas have been synthesized and tested only in racemic form, and modern requirements for the creation of new pharmaceuticals include the conduct of biological tests for individual enantiomers of racemic drugs. Therefore, at the present time, methods for the preparation of enantiomerically enriched forms of the Galodif preparation have been developed for the first time, and their experimental and theoretical studies have been carried out. Biological tests of the obtained samples revealed differences in the anticonvulsant activity of the enantiomeric forms of Galodif. Thus, the results obtained will make it possible to create an anticonvulsant of a new generation in the future. Also, new effective methods have been developed for the preparation of the racemic Galodif and its key intermediates, applicable for further industrial implementation. Based on the conducted research, 20 works have been published, including 4 articles, 12 theses of conference reports, 1 international patent, 3 Russian patents. The work was awarded a gold medal at the International Forum-Exhibition "RosBioTech" (2014)
