As a result of the development of the discipline the student will have:

- Know the types, assignment of materials and methods for their preparation; the main materials used in mechanical engineering; the classifications of materials on the composition, properties, purpose; the factors that determine the properties of the materials;

- Be able to determine the composition (structure) of the material; to choose the material for a particular purpose;

- Own (methods, techniques) skills for application of knowledge about the most common material properties (physical, technical, technological) for specific tasks activity.
