In 1972 he graduated from the Tomsk Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Lighting Engineering and Light Sources. After graduation, he worked at the Department of Lighting Engineering and Light Sources. In 1982 he defended his thesis on the specialty 04/01/07 - solid state physics. From 1991 to 2019 he worked at the Institute of Strength Physics and Materials Science. In 1998, he was approved as a senior research fellow. In 2007 he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic “Deformation and fracture of materials modified by ion beams during friction”, specialty 04/01/07 - condensed matter physics.
