Research activity of Alexey K. Mazurov is concerned with prospecting and exploration of W-Mo deposits. He performed and supervised geological exploration for commercial exploitation of the Koktenkol molybdenum deposit, the Upper Kayrakty tungsten deposit, as well as the Northern Katpar and the Intermediate Koktenkol tungsten deposits.

Geological and technological mapping of tungsten ore of the Upper Kayrakty deposit was performed under the supervision of Alexey K. Mazurov, that made it possible to find the appropriate scheme of tungsten ore processing and to prepare the deposit for operation and maintenance phase.
