Courses: Technology of Construction Materials, Materials Science Materials Science is included into the degree programme 15.03.01 Mechanical Engineering. The total number of credit hours covered by the course is 108. The course involves 32 hours of lectures, 32 hours of laboratory and practical work, and 60 hours of individual work. The type of final assessment used is examination in the fifth term. The course provides a basic current understanding of the structure and mechanical, physical, and physical and chemical properties of various kinds of metallic materials as well as main features of various production methods for metallic and non-metallic materials. The course covers the following topics: classification of construction materials; evaluation of construction materials properties; structure of metal alloys; types of binary constitution diagrams; classification and application of steels and cast irons; non-ferrous alloys; non-metallic materials; composite materials. The total number of credit hours covered by the Technology of Construction Materials course is 144. The course involves 32 hours of lectures, 48 hours of laboratory work, and 64 hours of individual work. The type of final assessment used is examination in the fourth term. The course provides a current understanding of the structure and physical and chemical basics of metallurgical production. Production of cast iron. Nature of metallurgical conversion of cast iron into steel. General information about metal forming. Physical basics of moulding. Physical basics of welding. Physical and chemical basics of cutting. The course covers the following topics: metallurgical production; metal forming; foundry production; permanent joints; metal cutting; heat treatment of metal alloys; rational choice of materials and production methods. Laboratory exercises related to the above topics are provided to reinforce the material covered in the lectures. The following types of assessment are used to track students progress: introductory
