About the Project

FY15 U.S.-Russia Peer-to-Peer Dialogue Program 2015-2016

Applicant Organization: National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU).

Partner Organization: Colorado State University (CSU)

Project Title: Territory Identity of Russia and America through the Eyes of Young Generations

The purpose of the project is to involve younger generations into the spread of fundamental and universal values, such as respect among cultures and harmony among people, in order to develop and promote intercultural dialogue.

The project is innovative and significant in multiple ways. First, finding out new and interesting things about your own surroundings and activities is an experience that widens the person’s individual knowledge of their own cultural background and deepens their understanding of how unique their culture is. Second, working collaboratively with peers from another country and sharing and constructing new knowledge together promotes cross-cultural analysis, tolerance and appreciation of other cultures as well as interest for learning about them. One other unique feature is that students from both countries/universities will be working in mixed groups, learning to understand each other to complete the task as well as learning from each other about their values, habits, and other “hidden” aspects of the “small” culture (i.e., from the emic perspective) that are often left unnoticed by anyone who does not belong to a specific cultural/ social group.
