The Department participates in the international project of the European Community ‘HISTOCITY Network: The GIS as Design and Management Support’. In collaboration with the University of Cagliari the Department carries out the research ‘Creating Geo-Information Systems to Solve Urban Problems’ funded by the Italian government.

There is an academic exchange for teaching staff and students to undergo a scientific training in the University of Strasbourg.

The scientific school of geo-information science by Professor N.G. Markov is well known abroad. Its members always receive invitations and participate in prestigious international scientific conferences, workshops and symposiums.

The staff members of the Department prepare teaching materials for three disciplines that are taught in English for the students specializing in the educational line ‘Computer Science’.

Professor V.G. Spitzyn (2007) and Associate Professor Yu.R. Tsoy (2008) underwent a training in the Vienna University of Technology (Austria). In 2008 Professor V.G. Spitzyn took part in International Symposium ‘European Electromagnеtics’ presenting 3 reports (Lausanne, Switzerland, 21-25 July 2008, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, EPFL)
