Institute of Cybernetics hosted the designers from Finland

Institute of Cybernetics hosted the designers from Finland On November 27 TPU representatives, Alena A. Zakharova, Director of the Institute of Cybernetics, Evgenia V. Vekhter, acting Head of the Department of engineering graphics and industrial design, and Inna M. Vorobeva, manager on international education and cooperation of the Institute of Cybernetics, welcomed honorary delegation from Finland. Among the guests were: Raimo Nikkanen, a professor of Aalto University, School of Arts, Design and Architecture; Eija Salmi, the Secretary-General of Cumulus, International Association of Universities and Colleges of Art, Design and Media of Aalto University and Yuri Nazarov, from Moscow, Chairman of the Russian Union of Designers.

The purpose of the visit was to hold a joint seminar and public lectures on design and discuss the scientific cooperation programs between universities of Finland and TPU. Raimo Nikkanen made a lecture on the shift of focus in the field of industrial design education at Aalto University, and Yuri Nazarov presented the national policies in the field of design.

Also, there was presented a proposal for future cooperation to cover an agreement on scientific and technological cooperation between TPU (Department of engineering graphics and industrial design of the Institute of Cybernetics) and Aalto University. There are plans to arrange academic exchanges, educational internships for the students and staff, invitation of the professors of Aalto University to give lectures at TPU, scientific cooperation in terms of implementation of the joint programs, etc. The guests agreed to all proposals presented, while being ready to negotiate a specific agreement.

The Institute of Cybernetics has been training the future designers since 2010 and is preparing to open the Center for Industrial Design, which will unite specialists and students of different specializations. The students, who are enrolled in industrial design program, are working on real projects by industrial orders. Now the university is actively seeking for partners, including overseas, to expand educational opportunities and to graduate the industrial designers of the world level.
