    About the laboratory     

Tomsk open laboratory for material inspections

Activity objectives: expansion of international cooperation between TPU and leading foreign scientific organizations (including universities); conducting of research & development work; creation of hi-tech products with applying of innovative NDT methods; advanced training of NDT specialists for Tomsk special economic zone and Russia as a whole; creation of small-scale innovative enterprises on the basis of TOLMI.

Head: Kröning Hans-Michael Wilhelm Adolf.

The laboratory was founded as result of winning in open competition to attract top scientists in the Russian institution of higher education.

Following departments of TPU were basis for the laboratory

Research fields:

  • Quantitative ultrasonic testing
  • Electromagnetic testing
  • X-ray tomography
  • Positron Material State Analysis
  • Hydrogen material science

Primary tasks:

  • Conducting of R&D work in NDT sphere.
  • Material and technical infrastructure improvement for development new NDT methods.
  • Attracting foreign scientists and scientific groups for collaborative research.
  • Achieving status of expert organisation in the field of applied engineering.
  • Ongoing involvement in work of the laboratory of young researchers, specialists, students, and postgraduates (including foreign staff).

Material and technical infrastructure:

  • Different sources of ionizing radiation.
  • A number of flaw detectors with different physical flaw action principle.
  • Set of measuring and analytical instruments, including spectrometers, analyzers, dosimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.

Staff: 40 employees, including 9 post-graduate students and 11 students.
