The results of comprehensive studies of modification of the surface layer of products made of austenitic steel by ultrafine particles of refractory inorganic materials were generalized and systematized.

A method of modifying the surface layer, consisting in regulating the concentration of ultrafine particles in the protective screen (carrier gas) and dosed feed in high-energy treatment was developed.

The rational powders modifier concentration in the carrier gas was found, which allowed reducing the dimensions of the structural components of metal, and improving the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the surface layer.

Modifying effect of the surface layer of the system Fe-C-Cr-Mo-Ni-Ti due to the presence of refractory particles in the melt AlO (OH), W, Mo, introduced into this layer in the form of ultrafine powders was justified.
