First, the new research area concerning generation of nanosecond microwave pulses up to gigawatt power level by storing the electromagnetic energy in a high Q-factor resonant structure and fast dumping of the stored energy into a load was proposed and verified. This research field is known worldwide as the microwave pulse compression or the resonant microwave compression. Scientific supervising was exercised for 14 research and development projects under the URSS government orders, important results were obtained for organizations of Defense Industrial enterprises. The award of the URSS Ministry was given for the creation of the radar model with the transmitter pulse compression and its successful field tests. Eight members of TPU Scientific – teaching school team, headed by Yu.G.Yushkov, became laureates of Tomsk region government award in the field of teaching and science.
