When I was a little bit younger, I had one unanswered question “what does it mean to be successful as a writer?” Though now I write articles and do my research mainly on the area of literary criticism, sometimes I realize that I still trying answering this question. The objective reasons for being successful or not, if there might be any objective reasons, are the unsolved problem for me. The genre of gothic novel is my favourite one. The genre knew the periods of great glory and the dark times of despise. The genre remained the same and more over it has had its distinctive features for the whole period of the existence. What is the reason for the glory and despise? I have been answering this question in different ways for 6 years, and now, when I am a second year gradate student of Tomsk Polytechnic University, Art and Literature department, probably I am ready to answer the question. I am greatly interested in so-called “horror genre” and I hope to write a monograph as a result of my ‘kandidatskaya’ thesis. I suppose that work will be of great interest because it gives a new view on the problem of popularity and/or unpopularity of “best-sellers” which sometimes are representatives of “popular genres”, pulp fiction. I seek for solution with the help not only the literary criticism but the theory of translation, philosophy and even on the area of a modal logic as well as logic of philosophy. I started my teaching career in 2000, as a teacher of English at the Novgorod State University, Velikiy Novgorod. In the end of 2004, I moved into Tomsk, where I went on with my professional activity as an ESP teacher in Tomsk Polytechnic University. I regard this experience as enormously valuable, because I have had a nice chance to obtain new information on the area of my work, and namely – Strength of materials (2004-2005), General Engineering (2005-2007), rudiments of Nuclear Physics (2007-2008), General Geology (2008-2009) ), Oil and Gas Department,. Nowadays I am an ESL teacher (European Language department), Tomsk Polytechnic University. Working as a ESL teacher I was also the senior member of the scientific seminar (professor T.T. Urazaeva) and I was responsible for general administration of our seminar. Nowadays I’m as well an International cooperation coordinator of European Languages Department , The Institute for International Education and Language Communication, TPU.
