Study of mechanisms of improving resistance to hydrogen of Zr1-Nb alloy modified by high-current pulsed electron beam (Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR))

Main results: The regularities of changes of the structural-phase and defect state of the Zr1Nb zirconium alloy are determined as a function of the modes of modification by a high-current low-energy pulsed electron beam. The regularities of changes of the structural-phase and mechanical properties of the Zr1Nb zirconium alloy are determined as a function of the modes of modification by pulsed ion beam. The mechanisms of interaction of hydrogen with titanium and zirconium alloys modified by pulsed electron and ion beams, subjected to plasma-immersion ion implantation and with various protective coatings (titanium oxide, zirconium oxide, nitrides) were studied. A mechanism is proposed for increasing the hydrogen resistance of zirconium alloy after being modified by a high-current pulsed electron beam. Modes for modifying the alloy Zr1Nb and VT1-0 using pulsed electron and ion beams to enhance the hydrogen resistance of materials have been established. Methods for surface modification for the protection of hydride-forming alloys from hydrogen embrittlement have been developed.
