Annotation for the course
This course will provide an introduction to the field of Psychology to students trained in other scientific disciples. We will cover a broad range of topics which will provide a foundation for future studies in psychology and neuroscience. No previous knowledge in psychology is needed or assumed, but students should be well versed in scientific method and mathematics prior to the course and have a previous degree in science, engineering, economics or other similar field. Students are expected to have a good command of English since all lectures and coursework will be in English.
Topics will include, but not limited to, the history of psychology as a science, psychology and neuroscience methods, memory, attention, cognitive development, aging, memory, perception, decision making, emotion, personality and engineering psychology. There will be time available in the schedule to add other topics that are of interest to the class. All topics will be approached from both cognitive and neurological perspectives. Readings will come from a free, online psychology text as well as published research articles. In addition to weekly readings, there will be one midterm project and one final exam.
