COURSE DESCRIPTION 1. Name of course: English for professional purposes: Beam – plasma technologies of material treatment 2. Field (specialty) (primary curriculum): Electrical engineering 3. Training profile (specialty, program): High Voltage Engineering and Physics 4. Qualification (degree): (M.Sc.) 5. Supporting subdivision: Department of High Voltage Engineering and Electrophysics, High Technology Physics Institute, TPU 6. Course mastering results Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to: • Apply physical principles of ion and electron beam generation to solve problems, using a specific format, and orally explain practical applications to the audience. • Demonstrate an understanding of the terminology of physics of charged particle beams, including units and names of equipment pieces. • Develop the ability to appraise, use and interpret experimental data to correctly explain the physical phenomena observed during lab class. • Write, using correct data collection, organization and analysis techniques, a complete formal laboratory report, including: title of experiment, objectives, data and observations, results and conclusions. 7. Course contents Broken into four basic modules for the semester as given below: I. Introduction to physics of charges particle beams and high-current accelerators II. Pulsed ion beam accelerators: Principle of operation and diagnostics; III. Physical principles of intense ion beam generation in high voltage vacuum diodes; IV. Application of high current pulsed ion and electron beams for plasma chemistry and material science and engineering. 8. Type of attestation: Face-to-face examination with the lecturer.
