Alexei V. Mytnikov was born in Tomsk, Russia in June, 2, 1966. From 1983 to 1988 he was a student of the High Voltage Engineering Department at the Electrophysics Faculty of Tomsk Polytechnic University where he received a M.S. degree in June 1988. Cum Laude. GPA 3.97/4.0. Thesis: “Research of working regimes of the microsecond pulsed power generator “DOUBLE” with plasma erosion opening switch”. He worked as Research Assistant from 1988 to 1991 and as Research Associate from 1991 to 1996 at the Pulsed Electrophysics Laboratory of Institute of Electrophysics Russian Academy of Science. He did research into pulsed power. From 1996 to 2001 he was Ph.D. student at Physics Department of Tomsk State University Control Systems and Radioelectronics (TSUCSR). At the 1997 was awarded by Scholarship of the President of Russian Federation for abroad scientific travel. During Dec., 1997 – Oct., 1998 he worked as Research Assistant, at the Applied Plasma Technology Team, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Los Alamos, New Mexico, U.S.A. Over there he did research into a process of production of wear-resistant diamond-like carbon coating on technological components. Conducted research on methods of implanting the inside surfaces of large pipes from refractory metal plasmas. Designed, constructed and characterized an efficient magnetic cusp system to direct a vacuum arc plasma radially for coating deposition on the inside surfaces of large pipes. After coming back to Tomsk he finished Ph.D. The thesis was devoted to experimental research into of electron emission from a glow plasma at the forepump pressure range; design and engineering a forepump electron gun; invention and development of a wear-resistant coating deposition technique based developed gun. He had defended Ph.D. Electrical Engineering thesis successfully at November, 20, 2001. From 2001 to 2003 worked as Associate Professor at the Physics Department of TSUCSR (lectures, practice and laboratory workshops at General Physics course). At the same time worked as Research Associate at the same place doing research devoted to development of wear-resistant coating deposition techniques on the interior surfaces of pipes using non-equilibrium beam plasma. Since 2003 up to now he has been working as Associate Professor and Research Associate at the Institute of Power Engineering of Tomsk Polytechnic University. Current scientific area is development of high voltage technologies – power transformer diagnostics. Teaching activities are following - lectures, laboratory workshops and exams in special courses - “High voltage engineering”, “High voltage insulation technology”, “Breakdown physics of the condensed dielectric media”, “New diagnostics technologies of high voltage equipment”
