    About the laboratory

Research and technological Laboratory of High Voltage Research Institute of Tomsk Polytechnic University deals with a development of know-how and manufacture of products made of thermoplastic dielectric materials and study of properties of polymeric materials and composites since 1968.

The main aims of Laboratory are development, manufacture and study of basic properties of insulating products made of thermoplastics for high voltage engineering, power engineering, chemical and mechanical equipment.

Thermoplastic products possess excellent dielectric and technological properties. However existing methods of thermoplastics processing not allow large-size monolithic products with specific electrical, mechanical and thermo-mechanical properties to be manufactured. Two technological methods are usually used in Laboratory for manufacturing thermoplastic products: quasi-isothermal method and injection molding under low pressure method.

Main advantages of these methods:

  • manufacture of large-size semi-finished and completed products;
  • absence of defects, gaseous voids, shrinkage bubbles;
  • low residual mechanical strain;
  • manufacture of large-size products with inside metallic parts;
  • manufacture of small lots and single experimental products with low specific costs;
  • know-how does not require expensive molds.

Laboratory has a rich experience in the production of products made of polymeric thermoplastics such as: low and high density polyethylene (LDPE, HDPE), polyamide (PA), polycarbonate (PC), polystyrene and etc.

Hundreds of tons of large-size thermoplastic products used as high voltage insulation and constructional parts of different equipment were produced over forty years. Our products are used in Russia, Germany, China, USA, France, Greece, Japan and etc.
