Stepan L. Shvartsev was born in on 14 September 1936 in Lithuanian Republic. In 1960 he graduated the Tomsk Polytechnic Institute (now the National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University) on a specialty "Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology" with honors. 1976 – 2013 - Head of the Department of Hydrogeology, Engineering Geology and Hydrogeoecology TPU. In 1979 he defended his doctoral thesis on the topic "Formation of the groundwater chemical composition in hypergenesis zone" at Moscow State University. 1980–1990 – Dean of the Faculty of exploration (TPU). Since 1981 - Scientific supervisor of the Fundamental Research Laboratory of Hydrogeochemistry. In 1982 he received the academic status of Professor 1997 –2013 - Director of the Tomsk branch of Trofimuk Institute of Petroleum Geology and Geophysics of Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences He is the Head of the Siberian Hydrogeochemical School. Professor Shvartsev has received numerous awards, prizes and honorary degrees for his scientific achievements. During his career, he prepared 50 candidates and 9 doctors of sciences.
